There are two types of cholesterols, the good cholesterol and the bad cholesterol. Human needs good cholesterol to have a healthy life. If your cholesterol is high, this means you have too much bad cholesterol. You should know that there are lots of dangers if you high in cholesterol, ways to lower your cholesterol level and ways to avoid the cholesterol. However, do you know that our body does need cholesterol to build and maintain cell membranes. The membranes need it to make hormones, vitamin D and bile acid which helps to digest fat. Good Cholesterol (High Density Lipoprotein) Liver makes cholesterol. Foods from animals have cholesterol as well, maybe animal have liver too. Some vegetable contain cholesterol and saturated fat. Cholesterol is a waxy and fatty substance that bonds the protein before its travel through the bloodstream. Lipoprotein is the term used when cholesterol bonds to protein. Cholesterol test is a test which measure lipoproteins. Lipoprotein is measured by their density (the ratio if fat versus protein). High density means there are more protein compare to fats. High density lipoprotein (HDL) is the good cholesterol commonly known. This help to prevent your arteries being blocked and remove excess fat from your body. On the other hand, the low density lipoprotein (LDL) is the vice versa of the HDL, the good cholesterol. The LDL and the triglycerides (a type of fat carried by LDL) is what we called the bad cholesterol. Unlike the good cholesterol, the bad cholesterol can clog your arteries and causes heart attack and similar disease. How do we level of bad and good cholesterol is varied from people to people. There are many factors which affect cholesterol levels such as overweight, diet with too much saturated fat and trans fat, lack of exercising, inherent and certain medical condition or medicines may contribute to your current cholesterol level. Cholesterol tends to increase with age too. Once you found that your cholesterol level is high, you doctor may advise you some actions in order to increase your good cholesterol and decrease your bad cholesterol by changing your diet and lifestyle.
