Discover If You Suffer From Night Panic Attacks And What You Can Do About It

Living just 50 years ago was different than it is today. The stress put upon us and our ancestors was not as great as it is today. Many of us lose sleep and develop other ailments. Due to such lack of sleep during the night we tend to feel tired and exhausted during the day. If not handled, these sleepless nights will turn into nocturnal anxiety attacks which will disrupt the normal cycle of our lives.

As human beings we need to rest approximately every 16 hours. Our resting period lasts approximately 8 hours and then we're up again. We have to abide by this never-ending cycle because that is the way our bodies were designed. However, when there is an obstruction in the normal course of life, the balance is lost and then problems creep in. If you consistently sleep less than eight hours per night and wake up feeling tired, you may have chronic sleep problems which may lead to or be nocturnal anxiety disorder.

I say may because sleep anxiety attacks is not easily diagnosed. You see it is a mix of many symptoms that indicate various sleep disorders. So a reliable diagnosis may be delayed. During the first phases of the night attacks, you will not sleep much or well for that matter and will most certainly feel drained the next morning. You are advised to seek a professional to help you through this when such a situation occurs.

The common symptoms of panic attacks while sleeping are insomnia, drowsiness during the day and unnatural sleeping patterns. Insomnia is more predominant than the other two symptoms in the initial stages. Also panic attacks during sleep are standard with people having improper sleeping behaviors.

Over 50% of anxiety attacks sufferers are likely to have nocturnal anxiety attacks, but the majority of their attacks occur during the day.

One of the worse side effects of panic attacks while sleeping is that the sufferers tend to formulate a fear of sleeping and that increases their anxiety and complicates matters even more. However, turning to sleep pills isn't the way to handle these issues as the pills can make you dependent and not solve the problem.

Nocturnal anxiety disorder cannot be associated with dreams as the attacks occur at the earlier phases of Rapid Eye Movement or REM.Therefore, dreams cannot be held responsible for triggering panic attacks. Also, the occurrence of nocturnal anxiety attacks can result in sudden waking up, shakiness, breathlessness, dread, perspiration and shudders. Such symptoms usually come when the person is in deep sleep.

The discovery of the cause of sleep panic attacks has not been made. The buildup of carbon dioxide in the body that takes place while we are sleeping has been suspected, by some, to be the cause. This has been referred to as the "false suffocation alarm".

Panic attacks while sleeping can be eradicated with medications.
Nonetheless, medications should be used as the last weapon for intervention as these disorders can be cured with certain restrictions and changes. To be clear, we're talking about anxiety medications and not sleeping pills.

A crucial part of your intervention is for you to make peace with yourself and with your disorder. This doesn't mean that you have to accept it. Just accept that you have it and move peacefully to find a cure. You must understand yourself first before you try to explain anything to others. The more you express the better for you. Apart from that you must make certain lifestyle changes as well - such as quitting or limiting smoking, caffeine and alcohol. Since these substances can intensify the attack it is best to limit their use. Additionally I would say that self help is the best help to cure night panic attacks.
