Cholesterol has 2 types as you always heard people say, the Good cholesterol and the Bad cholesterol. However, do you ever wondering what the differences between them and why they are called the good cholesterol and the bad cholesterol? They are very important to the human health and will affect us strongly. Cholesterols and us Cholesterols are an important substance found in blood streams and cell in the human body. Cholesterol contributes to number hormones and produce cell membranes which keep our body function well. High-density lipoprotein (HDL) which also known as the good cholesterol, can be found in our blood stream and protects our heart from a stroke or similar diseases. 40mg/dL or more for good cholesterol is the desired level for our body. Low-density lipoprotein (LDL) which also known as the bad cholesterol, can clog the arteries bus in our body, too many of them can cause heart attack or similar diseases. 200mg/dL or less of bad cholesterol is the desired level for our body. Bad Cholesterol- How can you control it? If you found that you have a high level of bad cholesterol the most important thing you should do is to consult your doctor for advises. You may need to take medication to have your bad cholesterol level controlled gradually. There are also lots of drugs for bad cholesterol sold in the market but I still strongly suggest that you should go for proper consultation from doctors who have your medical history, as some drugs may have serious side effects which we may not aware of. If you found that you have normal level of bad cholesterol, you could take the following steps: 1. eating healthy (food that low in saturated and trans fat as well as cholesterol) 2. avoid high cholesterol food (e.g., egg yolks, meat, poultry, shellfish cheese and butter etc) 3. Keep a habit to read the food labels content to find out any ingredients that may harm your health 4. Exercise Understanding the good and bad cholesterols level in our body and take initiative to build up the good cholesterol, keep the bad cholesterol well below the limit by monitoring the food you take and excising.
